Over the coming weeks we will announce our new MemberWise Ambassadors who will champion their particular area of expertise. Introducing MemberWise Ambassador (Community), Sarah Alder, Cranmore Consulting.
Sarah Alder is a Network Advocate and is working with membership organisations and associations within the financial sector.
She has a wealth of membership body experience and has worked for organisations including the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales (ICAEW), Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors (CIIA), The Royal Society, Fraud Advisory Panel, Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust.
Sarah has worked within the sector for the past 20 years and we asked her how she ‘fell into membership’:
“I was offered a job at ICAEW when I returned from two years travelling the world and thought if I stayed a couple of years it would be a good solid addition to my CV. I ended up staying for 18 years! I oversaw the organisation’s first website and the link up with the database. I believe we were the first professional body to allow online payment for member subs!”
Sarah has been a strong advocate of the network since 2012 and since 2014 has been a regular presenter and helper at conferences. She has chaired conference seminar streams, contributed to panels, handed out delegate badges and more recently has played an active role in welcoming all new members to our dedicated online professional community, MemberWise Connect.
Sarah explains what she plans to do in her role as Ambassador (Community):
“I think online communities are one of the genuine blessings of the internet; you can be with your tribe and know you’ll be understood. I want to make sure new members feel welcome and that even the most tentative questions get the best answer we the community can provide. Anyone who isn’t sure how to get the best out of the community, please get in touch.”
We asked Sarah about something that we wouldn’t already know about her:
“I organised the first ever externally produced exhibition that the European Commission allowed in to their headquarters building in Brussels. It celebrated 400 years of double entry book-keeping!”
