Whether you have a genuine interest in ‘Environmental, Social and Governance’, wish to become an ESG expert within your organisation, or haven’t yet found time to educate yourself about how best to make positive changes in this area, you should look to your suppliers for help. A proactive supplier partnership will help you plan and implement an eco-strategy that highlights your organisation positively.

ESG certificates are fast becoming a new normal. They are issued and accredited by specialist 3rd party companies such a ‘Sustainalytics’ and ‘MSCI’ among other providers. The aim of the ESG certificates is to develop a widely accepted understanding of what is considered to be sustainable finance, products and sourcing. Split down into 3 groups, the main focus tends to be on three core areas: People, Process and Product.

By making your organisation more ESG aligned you will make your membership proposition more attractive to both retained and potential members. A Bloomberg Intelligence study has shown that ESG investment is set to rise to $50 trillion by 2025, up from about $35 trillion.

The main benefit of an ESG certification, is the impact on your organisation’s image and reputation and how it will make you stand out. Members and suppliers want to know that they’re supporting ethical and sustainable organisations.

Romax, for example, is a carbon balanced supplier and member of the World Land Trust (WLT).  We pay a carbon offset levy on behalf of all our clients’ printed communications.  As a Carbon Balanced Printer, we provide quarterly certificates to all our clients that reports the total CO2 that they have balanced over this period. These certificates make a powerful addition to your ESG and CSR reporting and customer communications.  London and Whipsnade Zoos, Marlow Theatre, Emma Bridgewater and Shein, for example, have successfully balanced their carbon through their print jobs.

If you are looking for a meaningful way as a membership-based organisation to ‘play your part’ in reducing CO2 emissions and becoming more environmentally sustainable, it is critical that you are able to work with suppliers that can provide full reporting on all elements of their carbon footprint so that you can easily implement this into your own reporting structure.

Third parties can do everything for you, from sourcing ethically sustainable materials and suppliers to paying the carbon offset levies on your behalf, making the whole process simple and hassle free with regular reporting.

To further tighten our own eco-friendly Environmental, Social, Corporate and Governance in Autumn 2022, we will be operating from our new modern site.  The move reduces our CO2 emissions by 35% over our previous site, benefits from roof mounted photovoltaic solar panels and motion sensitive LED lighting. Visitors and clients will also be able to make use of our electric car charging points FOC.

Our business ethics ensure that impact on the natural world and local environment are kept to an absolute minimum. We are proud to not only hold ISO14001 Environmental Management Accreditation, but also to have the following measured outcomes and targets set in place:

  • Waste: Less than 5% of our waste is sent to landfill with over 95% recycled.
  • Energy usage: We introduced a smart meter six years ago and since then have seen a like for like usage reduction of 15%. All energy comes from renewable sources.
  • Supply chain: All purchases include an environmental and energy use consideration. Our suppliers must adhere to this as part of our supplier onboarding process, and wherever possible only choose suppliers based on their adherence to our ethos and accreditations, so the supply chain is measured, secure and audited.
  • Paper: All of the paper that we use is from FSC sources. We actively promote and advise clients in the best use of all materials and can supply bio-degradable (compostable) alternatives as required.
  • Water usage: We have a metered supply, and we track the water use and constantly seek to reduce usage.
  • Travel and transport: Wherever possible we use public transport to attend meetings.
