The MemberWise Network is unique as being the only Network led by association and membership professionals. A core part of our team are the MemberWise Ambassadors; a group of practising membership professionals specialising in a specific area that we consider core and crucial to the world of membership such as engagement, recruitment and value.
In recent years, we have branched out into complementary areas such as governance, leadership, communications and PR, and people/volunteer management in order to show how the membership role requires broader business insight and experience.
We are now pleased to announce that we have appointed our first Ambassador to champion the work of online learning and assessment: David Aylett, CPD Product Owner at the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
Let’s get to know David, who’ll be championing this crucial area of activity…
How long have you worked in Membership?
I was new to Membership organisations when I joined the IET 8 years ago, having previously worked at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, GlaxoSmithKline and Hertfordshire Constabulary, mostly in Project Management as well as spending several years self-employed in Employment Law
What does your role involve at the IET?
I work as part of a team of 4 Product Managers within our Professional Development Department. I wrote our CPD Procedure from scratch and now manage/adapt the Procedure, as necessary. I visit companies to present on CPD and represent the IET on the PARN CPD Forum.
How will you champion your ambassador subject area (online learning)?
Our workplaces are constantly changing, and we will need to embrace change in the form of expectations of online engagement.
What advice would you give to others also working in membership?
Research, listen and learn, constantly.
