Cranmore Digital Consulting provides strategic consultancy services for digital and marketing activities for membership bodies and associations. This includes marketing and communications for members, for other external audiences and for internal stakeholders.
Recent projects
Identity crisis – Working with a membership body who wanted to grow membership but were struggling to identify their core members, and therefore unable to make much-needed decisions on direction, activities and resourcing. One-to-one interviews with a range of members showed the way forward and gave the insight needed to develop a value proposition. The presentation to the board showed how the core audience had been defined, the value proposition that had been developed and how to use that to recruit and retain members, and to streamline activities.
Developing a marketing planning process - After a major restructure of the marketing and comms function, this professional body had redefined the goals for the marketing and communications department, moving from it being a service-department, delivering what the client departments asked for, to a team of expert advisers, using their expertise to provide pro-active, digital-first solutions. Being able to plan work was crucial for success, particularly for revenue generating parts of the business and for high profile activities. The marketing and comms managers needed timely notice of what the organisation was planning, activities from all departments needed to be co-ordinated to avoid overwhelming audiences or missing important opportunities, and processes were needed for doing this that were not time-consuming. The project involved workshops with teams around the business to understand what they required, how that was planned and where they did or might work with other departments, and then the development of a robust planning process, with supporting documentation that was easy to use but delivered real value. By using Cranmore Digital Consulting to undertake the work the new processes were ready and waiting for the newly-recruited marketing ops manager, and the groundwork had been laid for explaining the new ways of working to the teams across the business.
Digital resources review – Reviewing the existing resources (human, financial and technology) for marketing activities for a charity, focusing on how well their marketing activities, particularly digital marketing activities, were performing and where changes and improvements were needed. The work comprised a review of the marketing activities used - a range of social media platforms, emails supported by a CRM, search advertising, website and bespoke online tools. An online digital marketing skills benchmark was used to assess levels of skills and confidence in the organisation. A competitor and comparator digital marketing review was also completed. The resulting report made recommendations around staffing, structure and use of external support and included a detailed training and development plan for digital staff.
