Between 18th January and 26th Febuary the MemberWise Network conducted a public consultation on the formalisation of membership related learning/development into a structured CPD programme for the Membership/Association Professionals
The consultation communicated a clear, structured and robust approach that would enable the sector to address four key areas of learning/CPD related concern:
- There is currently no joined up learning opportunities available
- The quality of current learning provision is variable
- There is no structured CPD pathway available to professionals
- There is no sector/skill specific professional recognition
We think this needs to change and you can read the full consultation HERE
A total of 50 Senior Professionals responded to the consultation, so we would firstly like to thank everyone who took part.
95% of respondents confirmed the concept of professional recognition for Membership and Association Professionals was something of significant worth and a project worth pursuing.
78% confirmed that the proposed CPD requirement (including topics) was appropriate, however further consideration is required linked to the learning requirement.
Many respondents felt the requirement of 150 credit points (equivalent to 150 hours of learning) was too high. However, having conducted research into a wide range of similar CPD schemes, the requirement for certification appears to be at this level or equivalent.
Respondents agreed that learning should include a mixture of verifiable and non-verifiable learning (as advocated) and that the proposed benefits of participation were acceptable.
Next Steps
The next step is for the network to engage with employers on the topic and if the proposed programme is welcomed a pilot will take place later in 2021. Dialogue on this initiative will continue via the MemberWise CPD Intelligence Group. Access is free-of-charge and hosted on the MemberWise Network’s online professional community, MemberWise Connect.
