Content is King but having the right content tools is just as important. Feedly makes day-to-day social media management tasks simple. The key to social media success is consistency but no one can be online 24 hours a day. Scheduling tweets and posts is one way to keep your profiles active even when you aren’t online. Hootsuite provides one of the simplest ways to manage and schedule your social activity across a range of accounts on one easy to navigate dashboard. This tool allows you to phase your content and reach your target audience when they are online. A pro account will set you back £6.99 per month. Buffer is a great alternative to Hootsuite if your social scheduling needs are fairly basic.

Well-designed images play a key role in social media management (93% of the most engaging posts on Facebook are images) and Canva enables you to create visually appealing graphics at the touch of a button without the help of a designer. With 19 pre-set templates, you can create engaging Pinterest graphics, Facebook headers, Twitter posts and Instagram pictures using a simple ‘search and drag’ method.

Canva sets itself apart from other visual social media management tools with its impressive range of fonts, graphics and photos and the ability to upload and edit your own images. Once registered you can download images free of charge and share designs with colleagues at the touch of a button. The only drawback is the lack of alignment tools. If your design needs are basic, PicMonkey enables you to resize and make basic edits at your leisure.

Twitter chats are a great way to engage and interact with an audience and using a hashtag is one way to measure the success of your latest chat or campaign. Hashtracking is a social media management tool that gives you an in-depth insight into a particular hashtag including the potential reach. Trial this tool for free or choose from a range of plans that start from $29 per month.

Social sprout
Active listening is essential for any business and Social Sprout is an innovative tool to add to your repertoire. Social Sprout will reveal what members are saying about your organisation by monitoring hashtags and keywords and notifying you of brand mentions. This is a powerful analytics tool but you can also use it to schedule posts saving you time in the process. Trial it for free or choose a plan from $59 per month.
